Applied Behavior Analysis
Behavior-Analytic and Evidence-Based Approaches
Functional Communication
Through Functional Communication Training and other ABA techniques, children will become equipped with the tools and skills needed to functionally communicate with others in meaningful ways.
Socialization
Individualized Social Skills programs will help children learn to take turns, share with others, join and participate in group activities, initiate and maintain conversations, and regularly engage with others in appropriate ways.
Play
Play is an important skill needed for growth and learning. Play skills will be taught and enhanced on at both an individual level and a group level to learners of all ages.
School Readiness
We will work to prepare children to enter school, and be successful in school, by teaching and enhancing the prerequisite skills that they will need in the classroom.
Independent Daily Living
Using various principles of ABA, each child will learn to master self-help skills that they need to function independently. Examples of these targeted skills may include toilet training, hand washing, teeth brushing, etc.
Maladaptive Behavior Reduction
Maladaptive behaviors that may hinder a child from learning new skills and maladaptive behaviors that may cause harm to the child or others will be targeted for reduction through ABA principles and procedures. More appropriate behaviors and skills will be taught in place of these challenging behaviors.
Sensory Integration
Through sensory integration, children will learn to use all of their senses (taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing) together. This can help decrease maladaptive behaviors and repetitive behaviors.
Caregiver Education
Parents and caregivers will meet regularly with their child's providers to learn how to apply ABA techniques and procedures in their home and community. Our goal is for all of our families to become empowered and confident in applying the science of ABA to their child and their lives.
And More!
ABA focuses on the whole child! There is not a skill or a behavior that can't be worked on during therapy sessions and generalized to the child's home environment.
Coming Soon
Luma Autism will soon be offering the following disciplines for our children who are referred to them:
Speech Therapy
A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) can help address concerns in the areas of receptive and expressive language, pragmatic language, articulation/phonology, voice, fluency, and oral motor/feeding. An SLP can work to utilize a multi-model approach in aiding in improved functional communication across a variety of settings.
Occupational Therapy
An Occupational Therapist may be of benefit to a child by helping them with everyday activities and to learn to perform daily tasks, whether it be physical, mental, developmental, or emotional.
Swallowing/Feeding Therapy
A Swallowing/Feeding Therapist can help a child improve sucking, drinking, chewing, or swallowing. This therapy can also help a child who may need help with taking in different food and liquid consistencies, using utensils, or engaging in strategies needed to promote safe swallowing.
